Benefits of ArcGIS Desktop Enhancements Throughout the Enterprise Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Matt Wennstedt, Russ Schuster, Shannon Porter The ArcGIS 8 Desktop environment offers great functionality. This paper addresses some of the advantages of customizing an ArcGIS application for the enterprise at a county governmental level. The advantages include rapid mapping ability and low user learning curve. Compiling data through layers and group layers, setting up geocoding services and database connections, creating layouts, and making toolbar enhancements are all part of creating an easy to use desktop environment. These are vital steps when customizing the ArcGIS Desktop within an enterprise environment.
